« The Twelve Labors of Hercules

Hercules Labor I - The Capture of the Wild Horses (Aries)

by Cynthia Guerrero de Leon

Diomedes, the son of Mars, raised wild, fierce horses of war that created so much havoc and damage to the land and the people. Hercules is asked to capture these horses. He calls on his friend Abderis to help him. They both corner the wild horses and tether them. Hercules pridefully decides to show his victory to Diomedes and goes towards the gate. He asks Abderis to pull the horses to the gate after him. But Abderis is weak and loses hold of the horses. They trample him to death and escape. Hercules pursues them and, after a strenuous effort, ties them one by one and drives them through the gate by himself. The people rejoice and proclaim him as Savior.

Lesson: This labor teaches us about the taming and control of our thoughts (symbolized by the wild horses). Since Aries rules the head or the mind, the energies of the Full Moon during the month when the Sun is in Aries can be tapped to help us in working out this particular lesson.
