Hercules Labor II - The Capture of the Cretan Bull (Taurus)

by Cynthia Guerrero de Leon

Hercules is asked to rescue a sacred bull that was captured by Minos, the King of Crete. Minos, wanting to sacrifice the bull for himself, takes the bull to an island. Hercules crosses the water to find the bull in the island. Hercules is led by the shining star upon the bull’s forehead. After many painful difficulties, he captures the bull and rides it across the water to return it to its owners, the three Cyclops.

Lesson: This labor teaches us about overcoming desires (symbolized by the bull) and managing these desires (“riding the bull”) so that our Divine Spark can shine with the light of the higher mind, intuition and atmic will power (symbolized by the three Cyclops). Taurus is called “the Bull of Desire.” Those who are inspired by the light of the Eye of Taurus will seek to change “the Bull of Desire” into “The Bull of Aspiration and Direction."
